How to Book the BTT in Singapore (School and Private Learners)

Booking the Basic Theory Test is usually the first official step after you enrol. The process is straightforward once you know which portal you should use — and that depends on whether you are a school learner or a private learner.

This guide covers the booking path for Class 3 / 3A car learners and Class 2B motorcycle learners. Always confirm the latest slots and fees on your driving centre's portal before you pay.

What you need before you book

• You must be at least 18 years old.
• You need an active enrolment with a driving centre (or a private-learner registration that still uses a centre for theory administration).
• Have your NRIC or FIN ready. Centres identify bookings against your enrolment record.
• Budget for the current BTT fee — see the 2026–2028 fee schedule.

You can book the BTT as soon as you enrol. You do not need a Provisional Driving Licence first — the BTT pass is what lets you apply for a PDL.

School learners: book through your centre portal

BBDC, CDC, and SSDC each run their own online booking system. After enrolment:

1. Sign in to your centre account.
2. Open the theory-test booking section.
3. Choose a date, time, and test venue the centre offers.
4. Pay the test fee and keep the confirmation.

School learners usually book lessons, theory tests, and practical tests in the same portal end to end. If a slot disappears while you are paying, refresh and try another time — theory slots move quickly near weekends and school holidays.

Private learners: still book theory at a centre

Private learners arrange practical lessons with an instructor, but theory tests are still administered through the driving centres. Enrolment and BTT booking still go through BBDC, CDC, or SSDC — not through the instructor directly.

After you pass

A BTT pass is the long-term foundation of the learner path. Traffic Police guidance treats a valid BTT result as the requirement for Class 3 / Class 2B Provisional Driving Licence applications.

Next steps after a pass:

1. Apply for your Provisional Driving Licence (valid for 2 years from issue).
2. Start practical lessons under the PDL rules.
3. When you are ready for the practical test path, book the FTT (cars) or continue with RTT (motorcycles) according to your licence class.

Study before you book — or book, then study hard

Booking creates a deadline. Most learners do better when they:

• Sit a few timed BTT simulations under exam conditions (50 questions, 50 minutes, aim for 45+).
• Drill weak areas with topic practice instead of re-reading the whole handbook.
