Singapore Driving Test Fees Are Going Up — Every Figure Through 2028

What this actually means for your budget
The theory test increase is small in absolute terms — 70 cents today, another 80 cents next March. The practical test is where it bites: $33 to $50 is a 52% increase over three years, and the practical is the test people re-sit most.
That asymmetry is worth thinking about. A theory retake costs you the price of a coffee. A practical retake costs you a test fee, and usually a block of extra lessons on top, which is the far larger number. Every dollar you spend getting the theory genuinely solid — rather than pattern-matching your way to a bare pass — is protecting the expensive half of the process.
A change that catches some Class 3C / 3CA holders
The same announcement introduced a second requirement. From 13 March 2026, Class 3C and 3CA licence holders on work permits and S Passes, whose employers submitted support declarations on or after 15 September 2025, must pass a road assessment before they can enrol for Class 4 or 4P lessons.
The assessment costs the same as a practical test. The consequence of failing is serious: licence revocation, plus a one-year bar on obtaining any driving licence. If that applies to you, treat it as a real test, not a formality.
Fees you will also pay
Test fees are only part of the total. You will also encounter a Provisional Driving Licence fee, a fee to issue the qualified licence itself, and — if you go through a driving centre rather than a private instructor — an enrolment or membership fee. Those are set by the individual centres and change independently of the Traffic Police schedule above, so check the current figure with BBDC, CDC, or SSDC directly rather than trusting a number in an article.
Practical lessons remain the dominant cost by a wide margin. Test fees, even after these increases, are a rounding error next to twenty-odd hours of instruction.
The cheapest lever you control
You cannot negotiate the test fee. You can control how many times you pay it.
The theory tests are 50 questions in 50 minutes with a pass mark of 45 — you can afford five wrong answers. That margin is thin enough that going in underprepared is a genuine risk, and generous enough that a few focused hours of practice will clear it comfortably.
Work through questions by topic until your weak areas stop being weak, then sit a full timed paper to check you can hold up under the clock.
