Loads transmitted to the road
For a motor vehicle used on a road, Construction and Use Rules rule 99(1) limits the weight transmitted to the road surface. A single wheel where no other wheel is in the same transverse line must not transmit more than 6 metric tons; two wheels in line transversely must not transmit more than 12 metric tons (Singapore Statutes Online, Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Construction and Use) Rules, rr. 3(4) and 99(1)).
The combined weight transmitted by all the wheels of a motor vehicle must not exceed 19 metric tons for a 2-axle vehicle, 28 metric tons for a 3-axle vehicle, or 34 metric tons for a vehicle with 4 or more axles. For articulated vehicles, the limit is 39 metric tons for 4 axles and 46 metric tons for 5 or more axles (Singapore Statutes Online, Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Construction and Use) Rules, r. 99(1)).
Rule 3(4) specifies that rules 99 and 100 apply only to motor vehicles or trailers used on a road. The corresponding trailer wheel-load limits are summarized in commercial vehicle operating restrictions (Singapore Statutes Online, Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Construction and Use) Rules, r. 3(4)).
Coverage debt
- Rule 99 states the limits but does not describe a practical procedure for measuring the weight transmitted through a wheel or the combined wheel loads.
