Choosing a place to stop or park

SPF’s Riding Theory Booklet says firm, level ground is the best place to park a motorcycle and advises against parking on a steep slope. If stopping at the roadside, it says to park close to the road edge; when parking, use a designated place where the motorcycle will not inconvenience other road users (SPF, Riding Theory Booklet, para. 296).

The booklet also advises riders not to wait for a traffic signal under a shelter located away from a junction, because doing so may slow traffic at the junction (SPF, Riding Theory Booklet, para. 296).

Positioning and securing the motorcycle

In a parking lot, the booklet advises parking parallel to and in the centre of the lot. When leaving a parked motorcycle, it says to use the handlebar steering lock (SPF, Riding Theory Booklet, para. 296).
