Fuel economy and emissions labels for vehicles in Singapore
How LTA’s windscreen labels and Fuel Cost Calculator compare fuel consumption, emissions, scheme banding and projected running costs for cars and light commercial vehicles.

Fuel types and emissions charges
LTA lists petrol, diesel, compressed natural gas (CNG), electricity, and petrol-electric hybrid as vehicle energy or fuel types. It says a vehicle’s fuel type determines its emissions charges, and CNG vehicles have additional requirements. The current emission scheme and charges depend on vehicle type and registration period; consult the current LTA scheme information for the applicable details (OneMotoring, Fuel; OneMotoring, Vehicle Emission Schemes).
Reading the VES and CVES labels
When buying a car or light commercial vehicle, LTA says to look for the Vehicular Emissions Scheme (VES) label for a car or Commercial Vehicle Emissions Scheme (CVES) label for a light commercial vehicle on the vehicle’s showroom windscreen. LTA says the label shows fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, as well as other emissions including carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), and the vehicle’s VES or CVES banding (OneMotoring, Fuel).
The label can help compare the figures and bandings LTA publishes for a vehicle; it does not state what an individual driver will consume or pay. LTA directs buyers to its Fuel Cost Calculator for projected costs (OneMotoring, Fuel).
Using LTA’s Fuel Cost Calculator
LTA’s calculator lets a user enter expected mileage and compare projected yearly fuel costs for different car or light commercial vehicle models. LTA cautions that actual values may vary with driving pattern and how much weight a vehicle carries. The page also says the calculator compares fuel economy and vehicular-emissions scheme bandings (OneMotoring, Fuel).
Use the projection as a comparison based on the inputs and models selected, not as a guaranteed bill. For cleaner-vehicle rebates and surcharges, see the current vehicle emissions scheme guidance. CNG cylinder safety and conversion requirements are covered in CNG vehicles in Singapore.
Coverage debt
The calculator’s projected prices and model-specific results can change. This article does not reproduce the interactive results, current fuel prices, or every pollutant threshold used in the emissions schemes. Check LTA’s live calculator, the vehicle’s current label, and the relevant scheme page when comparing a particular model.
