Road works and work-zone signs
How the official handbook and OneMotoring describe road-work warnings and the driver's response near a work zone.

Road-work signs warn drivers of road works and the need to slow down and drive carefully (LTA OneMotoring, Driving Rules and Information). The official Basic Theory handbook's EMAS examples likewise describe a roadworks display as a warning to slow down and drive carefully, and to beware of roadwork activities (SPF, Basic Theory of Driving).
When road works obstruct the normal path, the handbook says the driver should take extra care to ensure the intended path is safe and clear before moving to the right. A driver may cross the centre line on a narrow road to avoid an obstruction, but must not do so where the road ahead cannot be clearly seen (SPF, Basic Theory of Driving).
Traffic Signs Rules recognise temporary signs for road works as prescribed traffic-sign devices (Singapore Statutes Online, Traffic Signs Rules). A temporary sign or work-zone arrangement therefore remains a traffic direction to be read with the lane markings and other signs at the location.
