Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) for drivers
What OneMotoring states drivers must do at operating ERP gantries: IU or OBU, payment methods, the five-day missed-payment grace period from 1 October 2024, the $70 no-IU penalty, and high-level foreign-vehicle rules.

Electronic Road Pricing is used to manage road congestion in Singapore. Drivers incur ERP charges when passing through ERP gantries during operational hours. To avoid charges, OneMotoring says motorists can consider alternative routes, travelling outside operational hours, or taking public transport (OneMotoring, Electronic Road Pricing (ERP)).
Rates are reviewed every quarter and adjusted during the June and December school holidays, based on traffic conditions. Rates are generally set in half-hour periods. The period labelled 0730–0800 means the rate applies from and including 7.30 am until but excluding 8.00 am. The charge depends on vehicle type (bigger types pay more) and the time you enter the gantry (OneMotoring, Electronic Road Pricing (ERP)).
There are no ERP charges for Sundays and all public holidays. ERP stops operating at 1 pm on the eve of New Year’s Day, Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, Deepavali and Christmas Day (OneMotoring, Electronic Road Pricing (ERP)).

IU or OBU
All Singapore-registered vehicles must install either an In-vehicle Unit (IU) or an On-Board Unit (OBU) to drive through operating ERP gantries. If you do not have an IU or OBU, there is a penalty of $70.00 for each operating ERP gantry you drive through (OneMotoring, Electronic Road Pricing (ERP)).
Install an IU or OBU at an LTA-authorised inspection and service centre. IUs have a 5-year warranty; replacement after that, or if the IU label is missing or unreadable, is payable. For a faulty IU on a Singapore-registered vehicle, OneMotoring directs motorists to book an OBU replacement at no cost via the stated go.gov.sg link (OneMotoring, Electronic Road Pricing (ERP)).
LTA is phasing out IU use by end 2026 as part of ERP 2.0. Self-installation of an IU or OBU is not permitted and is an offence under the Road Traffic Act (Electronic Road Pricing System) Rules 2015 (OneMotoring, ERP 2.0).
Paying at the gantry
You can pay via a stored-value card inserted into the IU, or via backend payment services. With a card, the fee is deducted immediately; ensure sufficient value (examples given: NETS CashCard or CEPAS Card). Auto top-up or backend payment avoids insufficient-value violations (OneMotoring, Electronic Road Pricing (ERP)).
Backend providers named on the page are AXS Drive, EZ-Link Motoring Service, and NETS vCashCard (OneMotoring, Electronic Road Pricing (ERP)).
First-generation IUs use NETS CashCard (with chip). Second-generation IUs use CEPAS cards (examples: NETS Motoring Card, EZ-Link Motoring Card). Before driving, remove and reinsert the card; you should hear a beep and see the value on the IU display (OneMotoring, Electronic Road Pricing (ERP)).
Missed payment — five-day grace period
From 1 October 2024, if you did not pay the ERP charge at the gantry, LTA will send an SMS after the violation. You have a five-day grace period from the date the SMS is sent to pay the missed charge, with no $10 administrative charge if you pay during that period. If payment is not made during the grace period, you receive a physical notice of ERP violation and must pay the ERP charge plus an administrative charge of $10. Pay via OneMotoring Digital Services (Pay LTA Fines and ERP Charges) or AXS (OneMotoring, Electronic Road Pricing (ERP)).
LTA’s 2024 news release additionally states that if the missed payment plus $10 is then not paid, a fine of $70 will be issued (LTA, ERP Administrative Charge news release).
Foreign-registered vehicles
Foreign-registered vehicles must pay ERP when passing through an operational gantry. Rules differ by vehicle type (OneMotoring, Electronic Road Pricing (ERP)):
- Foreign passenger cars may pay a flat $5 each day to use ERP-priced roads during operating hours, regardless of how many times they pass gantries, deducted from the Autopass Card when the car departs Singapore. They may instead install an IU ($158.70 at an authorised centre) and use a stored-value card.
- Foreign-registered vehicles other than cars, including goods vehicles, taxis and buses as listed, need an IU installed ($158.70) and a stored-value card with sufficient value before using ERP-priced roads.
- Driving without an IU incurs $70.00 per operating gantry until the end of 2026, when IU use is phased out. Thereafter, foreign-registered vehicles entering without an OBU will be required to pay a flat-rate ERP fee of $3 for motorcycles and $10 for all other vehicles, for every ERP operational day the vehicle travels on Singapore roads. Foreign-registered vehicles may opt to install the OBU from 1 April 2026.
